Evil on Earth

As usual I went about googling random stuff (it started with reading up about World's most evil women).

I have read about Hungary's Countess Elizabeth Bathory who killed almost all of her female servants by torturing them to death and yes, bathed in their blood to regain her beauty.
And even Vlad III "The Impaler" from Romania who killed thousands of his own people by impaling them (even pregnant women!). Then of course these incidents happened during the Dark Ages, amidst the popularity of owning a slave; who, most often, are regarded lower than animals.

However, one story caught my attention as to how cruel people can get, especially when accompanied with a privellaged status.

The story is set in 1800s; New Orleans, United States of America.
There once lived a rich aristocrat by the name of Delphine LaLaurie. Twice widowed, this demure-looking lady had a talent of hiding what lied beneath, a horrible and twisted monster filled with insanity.

When a fire broke out in LaLaurie's Spanish-inspired mansion, all hell broke loose.
What lied uncovered for many years in the mansion's attic was the results of the beast that lied beneath the beautiful, porcelained skin and soft spoken lady.
Delphine LaLaurie had tortured her slaves in the most brutal form one can ever imagine.
What filled the dark attic was disfigured slaves, abused in the most horrific techniques - some were even clinging on to dear life despite it looking so bleak and dark.
I cannot imagine how it will be like if I were one of the fire fighters witnessing the scene of tortured human, what more be one of the slaves subjected to such inhumane acts!

Imagine this; sewn lips in which inside the mouth lies animal secretions (faeces etc). Eyeballs pulled out to leave hanging and head drilled to insert a metal rod which acted like a "stirrer" to stir their very own brain - all while still very much alive.

Arms and limbs forcefully detached, thereafter sewn back to resemble a "Human Crab" and even without limbs and skin grafted to look like a caterpillar.

SOME OF THE SLAVES DISCOVERED BY THE FIRE FIGHTERS WERE VERY MUCH ALIVE, BEGGED TO BE KILLED.

Nonetheless, the cold blooded devil managed to escape the authorities, even angry neighbours and protestors who waited outside her house and had planned to publicly hang her for her devious acts.

However, life is cruel. She sprang for her life one day after running into her carriage with her family - never to be seen again. Some said she fled to France, others said she lived in the outskirts of Louisiana.

There were rumors that she died during a hunt, supposedly by a wild boar. I only hope she died alone with no one around, her body strewn all over the ground by the angry beast that was once very much dominant in her. Some said she died of natural causes with her family by her side.

The reality is, everyone dies. Whether we are going to heaven or hell, one will never know until it happens. What we can do now is to imagine it based on our faiths.

The reality is, there are monstrous beasts out there whether you like it or not. It is nurture that brought along evil.

I was watching The Lovely Bones the other day and I was mesmerised by the digital effects, the story and the divine, magical aspects of the whole story. One cannot help but to cry at the sight of distraught families and torn souls. One cannot help but to fill themselves up with so much hatred at the evil man who murdered the innocent and once bright little girl.

Yet we all have to think, what if we come across a person so evil and heartless that pure hatred fills our souls? Why is it that the very thought of picturing the person dicapitated, in the most horrific state, brings about a rather peculiar satisfaction that we most often usually deny? Does that make us evil, in a way?
